UPDATE: Glacity Theatre show postponed

Written by John Dorsey | | news@toledofreepress.com

The members of Glacity Theatre Collective (GTC) are about to take their show up the road. The group, which struggled last season to find a permanent home in Downtown, is moving to the Valentine Theatre and taking the acclaimed one-man show “Har Har: An Evening with Harburg Harrisbrandt” with them.

“Our first full season we were moving around a lot and our executive director Holly Monsos was constantly looking for a permanent home for us,” said GTC managing director Irene Alby. “Not knowing where we were going to be from show to show was affecting not only our rehearsal time, but also our audience’s ability to find us — they had to follow us from venue to venue. It was Holly who really made this happen, and we’re all just so happy to be at the Valentine.”

Monsos said, “we were really looking for a non-traditional space Downtown and, as a resident group, we now have access not only to Studio A, but also to the Valentine’s dance studio, as well as their wonderful technical support.”

“Har Har,” which is the brainchild of award-winning New York actor/playwright Joseph Langham, represents a new direction for the group of local actors.

“With ‘Har Har,’ we’re really just acting as producers,” Alby said. “This is something we’d like to do at least once a year, to bring the work of an artist from outside our area to the community. In addition to being actors and performers, many of us our teachers and have found that our students haven’t been exposed to outside theater productions or anything other than musicals.”

“Har Har,” which was first brought to the group’s attention by member Edmund B. Lingan, premiered at the New York International Fringe Festival in 2001. Because of a conflicting professional engagement, the show was postponed one week. It will open at the Valentine’s Studio A at 8 p.m. Oct. 22. There will be additional performances on Oct. 23, 24 and 29-31. Tickets are $15 in advance at www.glacity.tix.com or at the door cash or check only. The door and bar will open at 7:30 p.m.
